What are the Benefits of Cannabis Micro-Dosing?
One reason why some people shy away from medical cannabis is the dosing. There’s just no RDA or recommended daily dosage that you can follow. Yes, the product label tells you to take half a dropper, but sometimes the dosage isn’t enough or too much. So you’re left wondering if medical cannabis really is the right way to go.
If you’re curious to try medical cannabis and don’t know where to start, then there’s micro-dosing. Cannabis micro-dosing is simply taking cannabis in small quantities. It already gives you the therapeutic benefits of cannabis and, at the same time, reduces the risk of producing adverse side effects.
Micro-dosing offers beginners to medical cannabis many benefits.
It gives you better control over your dosages.
Because medical cannabis has no RDA, micro-dosing gives you a starting point. It also gives you control over the dosages until you find one that works for you.
The standard dosing for medical cannabis oils and tinctures is half a dropper or 10 drops. This typically gives you 25 mg of the cannabinoids. In micro-dosing, instead of half a dropper, you can start with a quarter of a dropper or five drops. This gives you about 12.5 mg.
The dosage varies though, so you need to look at the product label. Say for example the bottle contains 750 mg of CBD in a 15 ml bottle. Then divide 750 by 15, giving you 50 mg of CBD per one full dropper or 20 drops. Now, divide 50 by 20. One drop then gives you 2.5 mg of CBD. So 2.5 mg may be your initial micro-dose.
You may or may not yet feel any effect on this dosage. But if there’s none, then increase your dosage on your next schedule, say two drops giving you 5 mg.
It reduces the risk of adverse side effects.
One mistake many beginners to medical cannabis make is taking too much too soon. But this is more common in cannabis edibles though.
Say for example one brownie contains 10 mg of CBD and 10 mg of THC. Because it is a brownie and it looks so mouthwateringly innocent, newbies make the mistake of eating the whole brownie in one sitting. But it contains 10 mg of THC, so if you don’t have any experience with THC, 10 mg of it can be pretty potent as its psychoactive effects kick in.
Micro-dosing cannabis edibles reduces the risk of developing adverse side effects. Cut the brownie into 10 smaller pieces, giving you 1 mg of CBD and 1 mg of THC. This will be your initial micro-dose, and you can simply increase from there.
Of note, because the effects of cannabis edibles take some time to kick in, you need to wait at least 30 minutes to an hour before you take another bite.
It helps keep you healthy.
If you don’t have any chronic health issues and just want to give your health a boost, then micro-dosing will definitely benefit you. The small dosage is enough to give your immune system a boost. It’s also enough to keep stress and anxiety at bay.
Getting the proper medical cannabis dosage may seem confusing at first. But micro-dosing helps you find your perfect dosage.
